90 Days of Me
Over the past six months I can honestly say I feel as though I have lost sight of myself. Building and expanding my business has left me with minimal time for myself, and has taken a drastic toll on my health (lots of long days at work, poor meal planning and choices and in the last 4 months, a complete lack of exercise - other than walking the dog and teaching pilates).
Prior to Christmas I knew I had to change the way things were going. Not least because I’m a firm believer in ‘practice what you preach’, and really…how can I help clients find their way to health if I’m spiralling in to the complete opposite. After all, it’s not just about physical health, but also mental health; and who is going to take advice onboard from someone that is clearly spiralling towards exhaustion? Not good for me, my clients or the business.
So, in light of this honesty! I am pledging to change things over the next 90 days!
I’d initially thought of doing a ’30 days of me’, but decided that I’d be more likely to turn it in to a ‘forever’ good habit if I pledged to stick to the idea for at least three months. Hopefully by that time I will not only be able to see the difference, but feel the difference in myself for the long term!
Apparently it takes at least 21 days to break a habit. But the European Journal of Social Psychology suggests it takes 66 days to form a habit. - so 90 days, to be really sure we’ve cracked it!
Here’s the idea, and I’d love for you to join in! (wherever in the world you may be!):
'90 Days of Me' is going to involve doing at least one thing per day that YOU want to do! Starting on the 1st January 2019 (And I think that’s an easy one!…if you want to take a nap during the day - do it!).
I often have days where I think, ‘I’m going to go do a spin class tomorrow, or I’ll do a face mask today’….. the time comes and goes and I haven’t done it!
The basic idea is that you will do something, anything, each day that benefits you. Whether that be physically or mentally.
For example, you may want to go to an exercise class, go for a walk or a run - make the time! 10 -20 minutes has been scientifically proven to be exceptionally better than nothing! Fancy a cheesecake today? Do it!, Want to prep your lunches for the week? Do it!. Been meaning to do a face mask and read a book for weeks? Take the half hour and do it! Been wanting to book that meal, concert, catch up with friends? Do it!….want to laze in your pj’s and binge on netflix for the day? Do it! Been meaning to book that appointment to sort out your niggling heel pain? Book it!
The idea is to get you feeling more like you and happy! That may include exercise and healthy eating…but there’s also nothing wrong with ‘treating’ yourself now and again or taking the time to do something to relax and unwind!
I’m also hoping it will help you find out what truly makes you happy in life! For example; I know that going on a long walk in the country with the dog is one of my ultimate favourite things to do when I need some ‘me’ time and time to unwind. (I also love lounging on a beach and surfing in warm waters….but until I figure out a way to move to Hawaii, I’ll have to stick with some other daily joys!).

Finally, just a little reminder. This is NOT about losing weight or any extreme form of diet or exercise. This is a ‘movement’ to encourage you to become a healthier you. That may include exercising and eating more healthily, but it may also include taking more time to relax, sleep and doing nothing for a few hours. Whatever makes you feel healthier physically and mentally!
